PART‑TIME , ASSOCIATE FACULTY POOL – This part‑time position is for an Associate Instructor teaching lecture‑discussion courses in day, evening, Saturday, or online/distance education formats during Spring, Summer, and/or Fall semesters.
AssignmentThe assignment may require teaching lecture‑discussion courses during daytime, evening, or on Saturday and/or in an on‑line/distance education format. Work location is Mission College, Santa Clara, CA. This position is represented by the West Valley‑Mission Federation of Teachers (WVMFT / AFT Local 6554).
Salary and BenefitsSalary is a percentage of workload, up to a maximum of 67% of a full‑time load, prorated based on an initial hiring salary range of $36,191 – $52,297 per semester. Benefits are as per the West Valley‑Mission Community College District policy.
Minimum Qualifications- Education – Possess any one of the following:
- Master’s degree in kinesiology, physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise or adaptive physical education; OR
- Bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND a master’s degree in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration or physical therapy; OR
- A valid California Community College Instructor’s Credential in Kinesiology; OR
- The equivalent of the above.
- Understanding of, and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socio‑economic, ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
- Experience in teaching a variety of classes at the community college level.
- Provide instruction for assigned courses, including preparation for in‑class or on‑line/distance education activities, evaluation of students’ work, and consultation with students outside of class or online.
- Maintain accurate class and other records required by the college.
- Submit attendance rosters and grade reports when due.
- Follow course outlines as filed in the instruction offices.
- Maintain office hours each week, at .5 hours per week per section.
- Observe, support and enforce the regulations, policies and programs of the District and college.
- Provide each student with a written course syllabus at the beginning of the course, as per instructions in the Faculty Handbook.
- Refer students to appropriate college sources for counseling and other student services.
- Assist students by providing advice on requirements for successful achievement in the member’s area of expertise.
- Work cooperatively within the college community.
- Foster an environment that protects academic freedom within the college community.
- Foster a positive working environment free from harassment, prejudice and/or bias.
- Demonstrate respect for the dignity of each individual.
Additional duties may be assigned as necessary to support the college’s mission and instructional activities.
