Job DescriptionOur client, a family-owned and operated commercial construction company ($80M–$100M annual revenue), is seeking an experienced Controller to lead their accounting and financial operations. This is a hands‑on leadership role overseeing a 7‑person accounting team and partnering closely with ownership, operations, and external stakeholders.
What You’ll Do- Lead and manage a 7-person accounting and finance team
- Oversee all financial operations, reporting, and compliance
- Manage company-wide cash flow, forecasting, and liquidity
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Oversee job cost accounting, WIP reporting, and project profitability
- Manage billing, accounts receivable, collections, and certified payroll
- Perform financial analysis and year‑end profitability reviews
- Manage insurance audits, union audits, and commercial insurance renewals
- Oversee accounting for 7–8 entities (LLCs and trusts), including business and personal‑related entities
- Coordinate tax preparation and reviews with external tax accountants
- Maintain relationships with banks, unions, insurers, and external advisors
- Support employee reviews, bonus preparation, and oversight of benefit plans
- Maintain familiarity with 401(k) (Roth and non‑Roth) and deferred compensation plans
- Utilize construction accounting software (Plexxis strongly preferred; On‑Screen Takeoff/Quick Bid a plus)
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or 15–20+ years of construction finance experience
- 10+ years of accounting/finance experience in the construction industry (commercial preferred)
- Strong knowledge of job cost accounting, WIP, certified payroll, and construction billing
- Union construction experience and understanding of union requirements
- Familiarity with construction liens, tax compliance, and insurance
- Experience supporting companies with $50M–$100M in annual revenue
- Proven leadership and people‑management experience
- Strong accounting, analytical, and organizational skills
- $150,000–$190,000 base salary
