Physician Assistant - Emergency Department/Urgent Care - Santa Clara

Under the direction of a supervising physician, the Physician Assistant provides high quality, efficient, team‑based patient‑focused care. Responsibilities may include managing patients in the office, hospital, ED, and/or peri‑operative setting; performing therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing, and wound care; and facilitating on‑call duties for the supervising physician. The PA may also be required to first‑assist in surgeries or perform other department‑specific procedures.

Daily duties may vary based on department and supervising physician needs and may require evening or weekend hours.

• Practice as part of a team under the direction of a supervising physician.
• Examine patients, perform comprehensive physical examinations, and compile medical data, including health history and test results.
• Administer or order diagnostic tests (imaging, electrocardiogram, laboratory) and interpret results.
• Perform therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing, and wound care, and manage infection.
• Develop and implement patient management plans, record progress notes, and assist in continuity of care.
• Instruct and counsel patients on compliance with therapeutic regimens, health maintenance, and other relevant education.
• Facilitate admissions, transfers, and discharges; first‑assist in surgeries; round on inpatients.
• Perform admission evaluations, including history, physical exam, documentation, and deviation reporting to attending physician.
• Provide pre‑operative/pre‑procedure education and answer questions regarding surgery, recovery, and risk factors.
• Assist with peri‑operative procedures, locate and utilize diagnostic images, and support surgical standards of care.
• Perform post‑operative procedures, enter standard orders, and assist in patient status management during recovery.
• Facilitate patient discharge and dictate discharge and transfer summaries promptly.

• Graduate from an ARC‑PA accredited physician assistant program by start date.
• Physician Assistant License (California) required at hire.
• Physician Assistant National Certificate required at hire.
• Basic Life Support certification required.
• National Provider Identifier required at hire.
• Fluoroscopy permit required or must be obtained within 18 months for Orthopedics, Interventional Radiology, and Radiation Oncology positions.
• Experience and competency in specific departmental tasks may be required.
• Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
