Python, Machine Learning/ ML Engineer, Data Scientist, AI Engineer (Applied/Software)
Contract to hire (conversion after 6 months)
We're looking for a Senior Python Software Engineer with deep hands-on experience in Python, Pandas, and Num Py and a foundation in quantitative methods.
This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys building production-grade Python data pipelines, working with complex time-series data, and collaborating closely with a research team to apply mathematical and statistical techniques to real-world engineering problems.
What You'll Do- Build, test, and maintain production-quality Python applications and data pipelines
- Work extensively with Pandas and Num Py for data manipulation, numerical analysis, transformation, and feature engineering
- Develop efficient ETL workflows for large and complex datasets
- Perform exploratory data analysis (EDA), statistical analysis, and feature extraction
- Process and analyze time-series and experimental datasets
- Work with algorithm developers to implement signal-processing algorithms and other numerical methods based on calculus, linear algebra, and probability and statistics.
- Write clean, modular, maintainable Python code with strong unit-test coverage and documentation
- Profile and optimize Python workflows for performance and scalability
- Collaborate with software and embedded/firmware engineers to translate algorithms and prototypes into production implementations
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Strong proficiency in Python
- Extensive hands-on experience with Pandas and Num Py
- Experience building and maintaining production-grade Python data pipelines
- Deep understanding of Python software engineering best practices, including:
- Object-oriented and modular design
- Code reviews, Documentation, Debugging and performance optimization
- Experience working with structured, numerical, or time-series data
- B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline
- Experience with Sci Py, Matplotlib, Plotly, or scikit-learn
- Foundation in linear algebra, calculus, statistics, and numerical methods
Preference for candidates within driving distance of Santa Clarita, CA
.
Hybrid/onsite expectations may be flexible for a highly experienced, autonomous candidate
The Ideal CandidateYou’re a software engineer first - not a data scientist, machine learning specialist, or academic researcher who happens to use Python.
You live and breathe Python development and have meaningful hands-on experience with Pandas, Num Py, and Sci Py
. You’re comfortable receiving a mathematically oriented concept, algorithm, or technical specification and turning it into clean, tested, maintainable Python software
.
You don't need to be an algorithm developer or advanced mathematician, but you should be comfortable enough with calculus, linear algebra, probability, and statistics to understand the concepts you're implementing.
Most importantly, you're an experienced engineer who can take ownership of the implementation and work independently without requiring significant software-engineering mentorship.
