Position title: Ethnomusicology Pre‑six Lecturer
Salary range: A reasonable estimate for an appointment to teach a standard five‑credit course is $8,872–$10,912 (based on salary points 1‑8). Compensation for Summer Session courses may vary from courses taught during the academic year.
Percent time: Variable, based on the course load assigned.
Anticipated start: Appointments are contingent on the hiring unit’s instructional need and the availability of funding. This recruitment is valid for initial appointments made in fall quarter 2025 through fall quarter 2026. Initial appointments with effective dates outside of this recruitment period will require an alternative open recruitment.
Position duration: Appointments are typically made during one or more quarters of the regular academic year (fall, winter, and spring quarters), but they may also be made during Summer Session.

Position DescriptionThe Department invites applications for an ongoing pool of lecturers who may be called upon to teach courses at the lower‑and upper‑division course levels. On the lower‑division side, we seek applicants with relevant teaching experience who can teach survey large‑lecture courses in the MUSC 11‑series, and topical large‑lecture courses in the MUSC 80‑ and MUSC 81‑series. On the upper‑division side, we seek applicants with relevant teaching experience who can teach various ethno/musicology courses, which includes the foundational history/culture courses in the MUSC 101‑series (covering Western music history as well as other cultural & regional musics from around the world), and topical history courses in the MUSC 105‑series.
Applicants with expertise in college‑level teaching and who can contribute to the inclusive pedagogies and excellence of the Music Department’s undergraduate and graduate programs (Music Ph.D., D.M.A., and M.A.) are strongly encouraged to apply.

QualificationsBasic qualifications (required at the time the application is submitted):
- Master’s degree (or equivalent foreign degree) in music; or
- Four years of artistic and creative work consisting of a national and/or international record of performances, exhibitions or installations in music venues, museums, galleries, and festivals, and evidence of scholarship in peer‑reviewed journals, web, and/or book publications.
