ICU Grave Assistant – Pet Vet Care Centers

Position Overview

Intensive Care Unit assistants work under the direct guidance and supervision of the ICU tech and doctor. They assist practitioners and ICU techs to the fullest extent, helping improve the quality of care for patients and increasing efficiency by relieving them of technical and administrative tasks. Responsibilities vary with current needs of the hospital staff, season, and individual abilities.

Major Duties
  • Maintain ICU cleanliness and inventory: stock syringes, needles, catheters, IVF supplies, bandages, foods, thermometer probes, paper towels, lab supplies, laundry, pee pads, medications; take out trash/recycling; change bedding and litter pans; monitor water bowls; feed patients; walk patients; sweep/mop floors; wipe down counters and pumps; complete daily check‑off list with ICU nurse.
  • Assist in patient care: help restrain animals, support diagnostic tests, administer oral medications, assist with treatments, and anticipate doctors’ and technicians’ needs.
  • Support laboratory work: perform in‑house lab tests, file reports, clean laboratory area, and assist with radiographs when necessary.
  • Maintain public relations: provide a professional, cheerful, and helpful attitude toward pet owners, sharing health recommendations when appropriate.
  • Assist with hospital physical plant: during downtime, help clean pharmacy, exam rooms, hallways, radiology, ultrasound, and lab to maintain a clean, odor‑free environment.
Other Duties
  • Dispense medication prescribed by doctors.
  • Follow daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning checklists.
  • Primarily responsible for dog walking, cage cleaning, and general ICU cleaning.
  • Ensure supplies are always available in ICU and closet.
  • Assist in cleaning any area used for treatments on ICU patients.
Qualifications (Required)
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year of experience in a veterinary environment, successfully performing all duties outlined.
  • Experience in animal husbandry, TPRs, restraint, and medicating.
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
  • Experience in a specialty hospital.
  • Compassionate rapport building and emotional support.
  • Sound judgment and safety practices when handling patients.
  • Effective communication and teamwork.
  • Dependability and timely completion of tasks.
  • Cleanliness and adherence to sanitization policies.
  • Energy and productivity, completing tasks quickly.

Schedule
  • Sunday – Tuesdays from 8:30 PM to 7 AM.
  • Option for a swing or grave shift (non‑Wednesday) as a 4th shift.

Pay Range

$21 – $25.67 USD
