Position title:
CROSS Practitioner in Residence (Junior, Assistant, Associate and Specialist ranks)
Salary range:
Commensurate with qualifications and experience. The posted UCSC Salary Scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step the scale titled, Represented Specialist Series Fiscal Year. “Off-scale salaries”, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions. A reasonable estimate for this position is $55,000-$194,800.
Percent time:
Variable percentages of time (50%-100%), based on available funding and/or work.
Anticipated start:
Appointments are contingent on the hiring unit’s research and staffing needs and the availability of funding. This recruitment is valid for initial appointments made in August 2024 through August 2025. Initial appointments with effective dates outside of this recruitment period will require an alternative open recruitment.
Position duration:
Initial appointments will be made for one year, with the possibility of reappointment. Should the hiring unit propose reappointment; a review to assess performance will be conducted. Reappointment is also contingent upon the availability of work and appropriate funding.

Description:
The Center for Research in Open Source Software (CROSS) under the Department of Computer Science & Engineering in the Baskin School of Engineering at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites qualified individuals to apply to our ongoing pool for the position of Practitioner in Residence. Practitioners contribute to the CROSS academic environment by offering feedback and critique on CROSS projects, collaborating on research opportunities, and providing guidance to CROSS researchers and leadership.
We seek qualified individuals who are professional practitioners to support the academic and professional endeavors of CROSS. Experts in open source software development and communities are encouraged to apply. CROSS aims to turn graduate-level research prototypes into successful software projects with vibrant user and developer communities. To meet this goal, the CROSS team uses a combination of teaching, research, and incubation of open source projects.
