DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

Risk and Safety Services (RSS) is a multi-operational unit within the Finance and Operations Administration Division of the University of California, Santa Cruz. RSS delivers programs and services to support campus-wide safety and emergency response for incident management. Departments include Risk Services, Environmental Health and Safety, Office of Emergency Services, Transportation and Parking Services, and University Police. JOB SUMMARY

Police Officers are the primary representatives of the University of California Police Department, responsible for the delivery of public safety and law enforcement services on and near the campus and other properties owned, controlled, or occupied by the University. Officers work under supervision and independently as needed. They engage in preventative patrols, respond to calls, make arrests, conduct investigations, testify in court, and manage custody of evidence and property.

They may work with civilian and other law enforcement agencies to provide security for ceremonies and events. The incumbent demonstrates knowledge of modern police methods, teamwork, interpersonal skills, and commitment to diversity and community-oriented policing. Officers may work evening, night, and weekend shifts and may be required to work mandatory overtime, attend off-site training, and provide mutual aid as needed.

APPOINTMENT

INFORMATION

Budgeted Salary: $47.84 - $52.55/hour. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

Under California law, the University is required to post a reasonable estimate of compensation. The salary posted is the budgeted amount and should not be exceeded.

WORK SCHEDULE AND LOCATION

Schedule Information:

  • Full-time, Fixed
  • Percentage of Time: 100%, Schedule is 4 days 12 hours/day (80 hrs biweekly)
  • Days of the Week:
    Mon-Sunday (TBD)
  • Shift Includes:
    Day, Evening, Night, Swing Shift, Weekends, Holidays, etc.
  • Night Shift Differential: $2.00/hour
