School Counselor - Entry Level or Senior - Santa Fe/Espanola, NM - 55K to 80K / Yr - No experience necessary
The School Counselor serves as an advocate for all students, addressing their developmental needs through counseling, psychoeducation, and collaboration. The counselor assists students in overcoming academic, social, or behavioral challenges that may be impacting their success in the school environment.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesAcademic and Career Guidance
- Counsel students on their academic plans, course selection, and post‑secondary options, including college and career planning.
- Help students develop effective study habits, time management, and organizational skills.
- Conduct aptitude and interest assessments to assist students in exploring educational and vocational paths.
Personal and Social Development
- Provide individual and small‑group counseling for students dealing with personal or social issues.
- Help students develop life skills such as problem‑solving, decision‑making, and conflict resolution.
- Deliver classroom lessons on topics such as bullying, drug use prevention, and social‑emotional learning.
Crisis Intervention
- Respond to and manage crisis situations involving students.
- Identify and report cases of suspected neglect or abuse to the appropriate authorities.
- Refer students and families to internal and external resources for long‑term support as needed.
Collaboration and Program Management
- Work closely with teachers, parents, and administrators to address student needs and progress.
- Participate in student‑focused meetings, such as Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings.
- Collect and analyze data to identify student issues, assess the effectiveness of programs, and inform school improvement plans.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records in accordance with professional and ethical standards.
- Education: Bachelors Degree in teaching, education, or counseling
- State Credential: Must hold or be eligible to obtain a state‑issued credential or license for school counselor from any State
- Experience: Entry level and senior level Counselor positions are open. Previous experience in counseling or working with K‑12, college, or university students is desirable, but NOT mandatory.
