Overview

The Chief Therapist, in collaboration with and under the direction of the Manager of Medical Physics, is accountable for ongoing shift leadership and for the operation of the Radiation Oncology department. The Chief Therapist provides direct supervision of the radiation therapy technologists, monitors patient workflow, educates the technologists when necessary, provides care for patients while delivering radiation therapy, and may work as a Tech as scheduled.

The Chief Therapist coaches and guides radiation therapy technologists under supervision and demonstrates professionalism and excellence by acting as a role model for clinical and service excellence. The Chief Therapist is responsible for creating and maintaining schedules, including arranging coverage for time-off requests.

• Provide shift leadership and operational oversight of the Radiation Oncology department.
• Direct supervision of radiation therapy technologists and guidance on clinical practice.
• Monitor patient workflow and ensure high-quality patient care during radiation therapy delivery.
• Educate and coach radiotherapy staff as needed.
• Perform duties as a radiation therapy technologist as scheduled.
• Develop and maintain staff schedules and arrange coverage for time-off requests.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Radiation Therapy Technology; ARRT credentialed as a registered radiation therapy technologist. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Certification/Licenses: Current Radiology license in the State of New Mexico.

Skills:

• Technical knowledge of radiation therapy equipment, anatomy and physiology
• Knowledge of treatment positioning, medical terminology, and radiation therapy quality assurance and quality control requirements
• Basic computer skills

Experience: Minimum seven years of experience required

Environment: Works irregular hours. Involved in multiple simultaneous patient-care activities. Exposure to infectious diseases and x-rays. Exposure to varying, unpredictable situations.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to handle emergency situations; prolonged standing; uses good body mechanics; lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients or equipment in excess of 50 lbs; hearing and visual acuity within normal limits; manual dexterity and fine motor coordination required.
