OverviewThe New Mexico Supreme Court is recruiting a full‑time, classified Appellate Security Manager for its headquarters in Santa Fe. The position involves managing security operations for the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals, overseeing emergency preparedness programs, and ensuring the safety of judges, staff, and the public.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement comprehensive emergency preparedness, disaster planning, and security initiatives for the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals.
- Provide armed security presence at all times for the Supreme Court Building and, where designated, accompany Supreme Court Justices off‑site.
- Supervise and coordinate security staff at both courts, including employee and contractor personnel.
- Maintain the video integrated badge access system, manage access levels for employees and contractors, and oversee facility security systems.
- Implement loss prevention and control programs, conduct risk assessments, and lead security and safety committees.
- Prepare and present training to staff regarding emergency response, firearms handling, and security protocols.
- Develop and maintain policies, standard operating procedures, and crisis management plans.
- Investigate incidents, prepare incident reports, and coordinate with law enforcement.
- Serve on statewide and local committees related to security and safety.
- Manage associated budgets and project contractors, ensuring compliance with state regulations.
- Stay current on emerging trends and technologies in court security and emergency management.
- Advanced knowledge of public and court administration, emergency management, and disaster planning.
- Proficiency in firearms handling, defensive tactics, and lawful use of weapons.
- Experience with legislative and budget processes in a court or government setting.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple statewide projects.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with internal and external partners.
Work is performed in an office and court setting. A valid driver’s license and travel may be required. The schedule may include nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime. The employee will interact with judges, justices, and the public in a professional manner.

Minimum Qualifications- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management, Safety Management, Public Safety, or related field. Must be licensed as an armed security guard (Level Three) in New Mexico and have a firearm in duties. - Experience:
6 years in managing, designing, or implementing facility security or emergency preparedness programs; 2 years of supervisory experience. - Certification:
Meets all state licensing requirements for a New Mexico Level Three Security Guard under NMAC 16.48.2.19 (6,000 hrs of qualifying work, required firearms training, psychological evaluation). - Safety‑Sensitive:
Must complete an annual firearms safety course and pass random drug/alcohol testing.
