The Forklift/Telehandler Operator will operate a telehandler and/or forklift on the jobsite to safely lift, move, and transport materials, ensuring loads are secure and within the machine’s capacity. Key responsibilities include performing pre‑operation safety checks, coordinating with other workers, maintaining clear work areas, and following all safety regulations. The operator may also be responsible for basic maintenance, record‑keeping, and assisting with other tasks when not operating the equipment.
EssentialJob Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate equipment:
Safely and efficiently operate telehandlers or forklifts to move materials such as pallets, bins, and scrap around a site. - Load and unload:
Load and unload products and materials from trailers and other vehicles. - Stack and store:
Stack loads in correct storage bays, following inventory and safety instructions. - Pre‑operation checks:
Perform daily inspections of the machinery to ensure it is in safe working order and report any issues promptly. - Safety compliance:
Adhere to all safety guidelines, including wearing the proper PPE, and follow load capacity charts to prevent accidents. - Site coordination:
Communicate with supervisors, truck drivers, and other crew members to ensure a smooth and safe workflow. - Work area maintenance:
Keep traffic lanes and work zones clear and organized. - Basic maintenance:
Perform routine maintenance such as cleaning, fueling, or recharging equipment.
Skills and Abilities
- TWIC certification required.
- Must be certified in operating forklifts and telehandlers.
- Good hand‑eye coordination and peripheral vision.
- Spatial awareness skills.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to pass a Fit for Duty screening.
- Must be able to pass a drug and alcohol screening.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to reach, bend, and stretch.
- May be exposed to loud noises, dust, and fumes.
