REQUIRED SUBMITTALS

  • PELLETB Score (if you do not have a current score of 42 or better, attach a request to test. We will conduct a PELLETB exam and need to know how many applicants need to test).
DUTIES

The Police Officer role involves ensuring safety, security, trust, and comfort for Santa Maria residents.

Responsibilities include:

  • Attending P.O.S.T. certified police academy and passing all mandated classes.
  • Training may include firearm handling, radio codes, court system overview, report writing, law enforcement activities, regulations, physical fitness, and arrest techniques.
  • Performing duties as assigned, maintaining reliability and punctuality, and upholding organizational values.
DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION:
Police Trainee
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High school diploma or G.E.D.

Experience:

Law enforcement experience desirable but not required.
Knowledge of English, law enforcement principles, laws, and customer service.
Ability to learn required skills, communicate effectively, analyze situations, and maintain physical fitness. Spanish language skills are highly desirable.

License:
Valid California Driver License with insurable record.

Special Requirements:
Minimum age 21, vision within P.O.S.T. standards, background check, polygraph, psychological, physical agility, and medical exams.

Tools used include police vehicle, radio, weapons, and computers.

ACADEMY MANDATES
  • Full duty status required to enter the academy.
  • Physical fitness standards must be met on first day.
