PT Counselor Center for Wellness & Wellbeing Continuous Applicant Pool – Santa Monica College

Salary: $50.25 - $247.50 Hourly

Job Duties
  • Support students by modeling problem-solving skills, effective communication, and conflict resolution rooted in a trauma-informed approach and harm reduction principles.
  • Support students around career readiness and career planning activities.
  • Provide in-person personal counseling to students, including virtual telephone and video counseling.
  • Direct group counseling workshops/orientations, both in-person and in an online environment.
  • When working with individuals, help connect them to internal and external resources, including entitlement benefits, housing, and legal resources.
  • Coordinate with program staff to ensure communication and collaboration to promote student success.
  • Participate in college, department, and faculty organization activities.
  • Gather and synthesize data relevant to program enhancement and future opportunities for investment.
  • Collaborate with Leadership Team to prepare final report of recommendations.
  • Counseling faculty are expected to participate in professional development opportunities offered by the college, especially those that foster growth in institutional practices benefiting African American, Latinx, LGBTQ, and undocumented students.
  • Ensure the completion and timely submittal of all required documents, surveys, and data reports for assigned projects.
  • Engage in participatory governance processes and activities and serve on college committees as assigned.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications of a Counseling faculty discipline at the college. Please refer to the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges handbook to review the minimum qualifications for faculty disciplines.

  • Master's Degree in one of the following:
    Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Guidance Counseling, Educational Counseling, Social Work, Career Development, Marriage and Family Therapy, Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling
  • OR the equivalent (

    NOTE:

    A bachelor's degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification).
Preferred Qualifications
  • A minimum of two years of community college counseling experience
  • Experience providing effective counseling in modalities including video, telephone, and in-person
  • Recent experience counseling African American, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students with culturally responsive practices
  • Understanding of counseling practices that support equity for African American and Latinx students
  • Willingness to analyze and re-imagine practices to benefit these student populations
  • Experience with students with physical and/or learning disabilities and varied learning styles
  • Equity-minded understanding of needs of low-income, underrepresented, and first-generation students
  • Project management experience; experience in a community college environment preferred
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and presentation skills; excellent verbal and written communication
