The Security Guard is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and supportive environment for residents, staff, and visitors within our locked skilled nursing facility. This role focuses on active monitoring, facility safety, controlled access, and rapid response to safety concerns while promoting a calm, professional, and compassionate presence.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Monitor and secure all entry and exit points, ensuring proper access control at all times
- Maintain continuous visibility throughout the facility by conducting regular security rounds
- Ensure resident safety by observing for wandering, agitation, or unsafe behaviors and reporting concerns to nursing staff immediately
- De-escalate situations when appropriate and request additional support when needed
- Respond calmly and efficiently to emergencies or incidents
- Monitor visitor traffic and ensure facility policies are followed
- Maintain detailed incident reports as required
- Partner with clinical and administrative teams to support a safe environment
- Enforce facility safety protocols without engaging in direct patient care
- Maintain professional communication with staff, residents, families, and external responders (EMS, law enforcement, etc.)
- Demonstrate dependable attendance and punctuality, especially for scheduled weekends
- Must report to work in security uniform during all scheduled shifts
- Facility can provide uniform if needed
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to pass background check, drug screen, and health clearance per facility guidelines
- Previous security experience preferred, but not required
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle situations with professionalism
- Strong observational and communication skills
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
- Ability to stand, walk, and remain mobile throughout an 8-hour shift
- Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations
- Physical capability to perform regular patrols of facility grounds and units
This position operates within a locked healthcare environment and regularly interacts with residents who may have cognitive impairment, dementia, or behavioral health needs. The ideal candidate must demonstrate patience, professionalism, and situational awareness at all times.
