Early Grades; 1st-3rd Assistant Teacher

Summerfield Waldorf School is seeking an Early Grades Assistant to assist our Class Teachers in Grades 1, 2 and 3 to create a loving, joyful, hygienic and rhythmic space for the children to thrive.

The Assistant responds to the Class Teacher’s requests for support and intervention with the children as needed, works with intention, warmth and efficiency, and keeps care of the students and classroom foremost in mind.

Summerfield Waldorf School & Farm serves nearly 300 students from five different counties north of the San Francisco Bay in Preschool- G12. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

* The Assistant helps promote the mood of the Waldorf classroom through:

* Assisting with or supporting children as directed by the Class Teacher.

* Assisting or supporting the children in dressing/undressing for outside play and dismissal time.

* Monitoring the play yard or indoor activities.

The Assistant Teacher may also be tasked with supervising the children in:

* Cleaning the classroom and front areas on a daily basis to prepare for the next day.

* Washing any daily dishes and putting them away.

* Vacuuming carpets and mopping tile floors as needed.

* Checking the play yard to ensure all is in order for the next day.

* Experience working with children ages 6-9 preferred.

* Waldorf Grades Teacher Training highly desired!

* Current teacher training students are encouraged to apply.

Compensation: $27.31/hr

Physical Requirements:

* Indoor activities:
Lifting up to 70 pounds (children).

* Standing, walking, dancing, jumping, sweeping, vacuuming etc. for teaching, circle time and classroom care.

* Outdoor time on irregular surfaces:
Standing, walking, lifting up to 70 pounds (children) regularly lifting 10-15 pounds (tools, toys), running.
