From earthquake and seismic engineering to the latest trenchless technology methods, Kleinfelder’s Geotechnical Services support the planning, engineering, and construction of complex projects, and our specialists are leading experts in their fields.

Position

Kleinfelder’s Northern California & Pacific Area is seeking a creative, highly talented Senior Geotechnical Engineer to expand and help lead a team of engineers, manage projects, and develop client portfolios. The ideal candidate will sit in our Concord, CA or San Francisco, CA office with the ability to travel 1 to 2 days a week to our Santa Rosa, CA office.

This professional will support a variety of public and private clients in the areas of commercial development, school and university work, transportation, oil and gas, power and water projects across Northern and Central California, and other locations nationally.

Responsibilities and competencies
  • Develop technical scope for proposals, perform geotechnical engineering design, and prepare geotechnical engineering reports as the Geotechnical Engineer of Record.
  • Supervise staff and mentor to assure delivery of industry‑specific solutions to clients; ensure constructible designs, meet deadlines, and maintain clear client communications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently or in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience with foundation capacity analysis, slope stability analysis, liquefaction assessments, and settlement analysis.
  • Experience planning, implementing, and managing geotechnical exploration programs including assigning laboratory testing.
  • Experience guiding staff engineers in material and site characterization, seepage, slope stability, and settlement analyses.
  • Experience preparing geotechnical reports, drawings, and specifications for foundations and earthwork for projects including transportation, water, retail, hospitality, and commercial sectors.
  • Experience supporting project managers in budget management, client updates, and general project management tasks.
  • Experience preparing and presenting technical presentations to clients and technical review boards.
  • Experience supervising field observation, testing, and site visits.
  • Ability to proactively troubleshoot and provide practical, client‑focused solutions.
  • Experience leading teams and developing staff at all levels.
  • Ability to organize priorities and multi‑task effectively.
  • Demonstrated thirst to learn and achieve continuous improvement in a team environment.
Requirements and qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or geotechnical engineering;
    Master’s preferred.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE);
    Registered Geotechnical Engineer (GE) preferred.
  • 10+ years of geotechnical engineering experience in a consulting engineering firm or related service business.

We are offering a minimum $10,000 sign on bonus for this role.
