Position
EKG Technician – Kaiser Permanente
Job SummaryUnder general supervision, uses an electrocardiograph to record variations in the action of the heart muscle for use in the diagnosis of heart ailments in both in‑patient and out‑patient settings. Prepares graphs and reports, completes all documentation. Performs various related functions including clerical duties and maintaining equipment. Responds to emergency situations as required. Coordinates work efforts for quality patient care.
Essential Responsibilities- Greets patients in a pleasant and professional manner. Prepares and explains procedures to patient.
- Operates EKG equipment by applying lead placements to patients.
- Prepares EKG tracing for interpretation indicating the required demographic information.
- Responds to emergency situations as necessary.
- Assists and prepares patients for the cardiology procedures which may include but are not limited to Holter Event monitors, Holter scanning, Cardiac exercise stress testing (may vary depending on medical facility specific requirements).
- Maintains equipment in operating order and notifies supervisor of needed repairs.
- Prepares paperwork and EKGs for physician interpretation of inpatients and outpatients.
- Maintains files, makes copies of cardiac procedures and assists with any other paperwork as required.
- Maintains a safe and orderly work area.
- Answers telephone and relays messages.
- Schedules/reschedules patient testing procedures via eConsult and other appropriate systems.
- Minimum one (1) year of experience (at least 1,060 hours) as an EKG Technician.
- Recent graduate (within the last year) of a certified EKG technician program with externship (at least 160 hours) including Holter monitoring, event monitoring and stress training.
- OR (i.e., either) satisfying the above conditions.
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
- Basic Life Support
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Must pass medical terminology test.
- Must pass basic computer literacy test with a passing score of 80%.
- Must be willing to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment.
- Preferred certification by CCI – such as CCT or CRAT, or obtain credential within 6 months.
