Clean Room Production Technician

This role focuses on manufacturing thin-film coated glass wafers in a clean room environment for use in consumer electronics, optical devices, and other advanced technologies. You will operate coating and production equipment, handle fragile glass wafers, and follow detailed procedures to ensure high-quality output in a highly controlled, low-contamination setting.

Responsibilities

  • Load and unload parts, tooling, and glass wafers into and out of clean room production and coating machines.
  • Assemble and set up tooling and equipment, including putting machines together according to standard operating procedures.
  • Operate coating machines that apply thin film coatings to wafers, ensuring proper setup, monitoring, and shutdown.
  • Handle different types of glass optics and wafers, including 200 millimeter diameter wafers, with great care to prevent damage.
  • Clean production machines and equipment on a regular schedule, including thorough cleaning every few weeks, following established cleaning procedures.
  • Work in a full clean room bunny suit and consistently follow clean room protocols, GMP, and SOP requirements to maintain a controlled environment.
  • Use written instructions called travelers to perform each step of the production process and sign off on each step as it is completed.
  • Monitor production runs that can range from approximately 15 minutes to 12 hours, typically 12 hours, ensuring machines run smoothly and product quality meets standards.
  • Fill out logs and documentation accurately, including production records, inspection results, and equipment usage, using computers and related systems.
  • Inspect wafers, glass optics, and coated parts using microscopes and other inspection tools to identify defects or contamination.
  • Perform general production tasks such as assembly, cleaning optics, and supporting medical and optical device-related production as needed.
  • Maintain productivity during downtime by independently finding appropriate tasks such as cleaning, organizing, documentation, or assisting with other production needs.
  • Manage one machine at a time while coordinating with team members to support overall production goals.
  • Participate in daily turnover meetings at the start of each shift to receive assignments, review priorities, and coordinate with the team.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for all aspects of production, inspection, cleaning, and documentation.
  • Adhere to safety, quality, and clean room standards at all times to protect products, equipment, and colleagues.

Essential Skills

  • Experience working in a clean room environment, including wearing a full bunny suit and following strict contamination-control procedures.
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) in a production or medical device setting.
  • Hands-on experience with general production work such as assembly, machine operation, and basic equipment setup.
  • Ability to handle fragile glass optics and wafers, including 200 millimeter diameter wafers, with precision and care.
  • Comfort using microscopes and other inspection tools to examine small or delicate components.
  • Ability to read, follow, and document work using written instructions, such as travelers, and to sign off on each process step accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness, including regular cleaning of machines and optics.
  • Capability to work independently, self-manage tasks, and stay productive without constant direction.
  • Ability to work a 12-hour shift, specifically a schedule that includes long days and alternating mid-week shifts.
  • High School Diploma or GED, with the ability to present documentation upon hire.
  • Eligibility to complete and pass an in-depth check.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in medical, medical device, or optical production environments.
  • Cleaning optics, glass, or other precision components.
  • Exposure to clean room production for consumer electronics, industrial, aerospace, or government-related products.
  • Comfort using computers for logging production data, following digital instructions, and completing documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage one machine and its associated tasks from start to finish.
  • Ability to thrive in a setting that values independence, accountability, and proactive problem-solving.
