The Pet Stylist’s primary purpose is to perform expert-level professional grooming services—bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts and styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning and gland cleaning—while prioritizing the safety, comfort and well-being of the pets in our care and delivering a high level of customer satisfaction.

• Perform professional grooming services with limited supervision, adhering to breed standards and company policies.
• Operate and maintain grooming instruments such as clippers, blades, shears, brushes and dryers.
• Prioritize animal well-being and safety, monitoring for discomfort, illness or injury, and promptly reporting concerns.
• Evaluate each pet’s needs, considering coat type, skin conditions and temperament.
• Provide excellent customer service to pet parents: address inquiries, recommend grooming products and offer timely resolution.
• Educate pet parents on grooming maintenance and at-home care practices.
• Maintain a clean and safe grooming area, disinfect and sanitize tools, perform daily and weekly cleaning duties.
• Apply Petco grooming policies, standards and guidelines to ensure safety, quality and consistency.
• Train, support and supervise entry-level trainees when necessary.

• Successful completion of the Pet Stylist Apprentice program or prior professional grooming experience and/or a technical grooming training program.
• High school diploma or GED preferred, though not required.
• Independent judgement and problem solving in routine to moderately complex situations.
• Results-driven with commitment to productivity and performance.
• Strong attention to detail and accurate execution of grooming services.
• Passion for animals and desire to continue a career in pet grooming.
• Expert knowledge of various dog breeds and grooming requirements.
• Proficiency in breed-specific cuts, styling techniques and grooming standards.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to handle pets of all sizes and temperaments with care and empathy.
• Available to work weekends, evenings and holidays as required.

The majority of duties are performed indoors in the grooming salon. The position requires bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, standing for long periods, and exposure to heights for cleaning tasks. The work can be noisy and wet.
