Position Summary
T h e Cook plans, prepares, cooks, and serves n u t r i t i o n ally bala n ced mea ls f or the res i d e n ts of the shelters and other programs. The Cook maintains the cleanliness, organization, and inventory of all kitchen and food storage areas. In coordination with the Lead Cook, the Cook is responsible for maintaining health and safety standards and USDA “My Plate” standards.
Essential
Functions
Plan, p rep a re, a nd s e r ve mea ls for shelter residents and participants of other programs as assigned.Ensure all food preparation areas are clean. Maintain sanitary standards. Mai n tai n a ll c l ea n l i ness of st o r a ge a re as. Comp lete d ai l y, w e e k ly, a nd mo n t h ly c lea n i ng schedule.Maintain system to assure that food items in freezers and refrigerators are covered and labeled appropriately.Support the se tup, take down, and cleanup of the dining area and food delivery area.Support the Lead Cook in the supervision of staff members and volunteers who assist with f ood p rep a r ati o n, s e r v i ng, a nd clean u p to ensure safety protocols are followed.Support the management of all incom i ng food donati o ns and food orders.Support the maintenance of all criteria associated with CACFP grant funding, including menu creation, weekly meal counts, recordkeeping, and annual audit process.P erf o rm job f uncti o ns in li ne with Catholic Charities’ polic ies a nd p r o cedu res. Maintain a p rof essional app e a r a n ce a nd p r e sen ce.Participate in training to ensure best practice standards. Support quality improvement efforts.Support the Mission, Vision, and Values of Catholic Charities in the performance of all essential job functions and responsibilities.Note:

E u d u c a t i o n, Ex p erie n ce, a nd Sk ills Re qu ired
H i g h S c h ool d i p l oma or High School Equivalency (HSE), minimum of one to three year’s prior food service experience required; experience in a scale commercial setting, associate’s degreein food and beverage preparation preferred.Successful completion of t h e Dep a r t ment of P u bl ic Hea lth Food Safety Manager test and possession of Food Handler Card wi t h in two mo n t hs of h i re required.Demonstrate proficient use of a variety of kitchen equipment, including broilers, grills, slicers, grinders, and blender or attain proficiency within three months of employment.Prior experience, interest, and a good understanding of service delivery with the homeless population, and sensitivity to issues surrounding homelessness, substance abuse, mental illness, and/or physical handicaps.Must be able to lift, move, and adjust objects up to 50 lbs.Ability to provide excellent customer service to all program participants.Ability to work independently and in a team setting.Strong organizational and communication skills.Excellent interpersonal skills, cooperative, friendly, proactive, and helpful attitude with clients and co-workers. Ability to work closely with clients and other employees to ensure a positive and constructive environment within the program or department and throughout the agency.Passion and enthusiasm for the mission of Catholic Charities and its clients.Possess valid driver's license; at least state required minimum of auto insurance.Must pass DOJ background clearance (fingerprinting) in accordance with the Diocese of Santa Rosa’s policies prior to start of employment.Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required.Job Analysis/Job Description
