Staffer (Retail Sales Associate) (Level
1)

Reports to: Lead, Manager, Sr. Manager, Assistant General Manager, and General Manager

Compensation: $18-$20, non-exempt position. Specific starting wages are dependent on location and experience.

Join Sports Basement, a sporting-goods retailer specialized in being a hub for the community, selling the best brands with basement prices, and giving back to the community since 1998. From a one-off shop in a San Francisco warehouse open only on the weekends to 12 fully stocked Bay Area locations and a recently opened OC location. We’ve added a rentals program, developed full-blown ski shops and bike shops in house, and even created  geared for your gear needs.

Full Description

Summary:

A Staffer helps create a WOW customer service and understands what makes Sports Basement awesome and unique. You make connections with customers by engaging genuinely with open-ended questions to help them find the right gear they need, offering your expertise in product knowledge. You work directly with the Lead and Management team to ensure the day-to-day operations and expectations of their zone/department are being met.

You have a positive attitude and ensure daily task lists and projects are completed within your zone/department. You typically have oversight of one zone/department and work primarily on the sales floor in your assigned zone/department, assisting neighboring zones/departments as needed. If you love the outdoors and talking about outdoor gear, this is the position for you! From introducing beginners to a new sport or hobby to trading insider tips with experts, you'll get to talk to a huge range of customers about the gear and adventures you love the most.

Depending on the needs of the store, other duties may be assigned from time to time.

Customer Service and Product Management

  • Be an expert in your department/zone to consistently deliver WOW customer service through engagement, uncovering needs, making product and/or service recommendations, and utilizing SB tools (Sale Saver and Aff…).

  • Customers find you approachable and are comfortable coming to you with questions, concerns, or issues.
  • Assist team members with merchandising products and projects including markdowns, retags, signage, and support other zones such as ringing at POS (point of sale) as needed.
  • Work closely with your lead and manager to understand business goals.
