Diesel Technician/Mechanic II

Location:

As a Technician II at Penske, you are a respected technician. You work independently while performing major and minor repairs, diagnosing problems via road tests, and completing maintenance tasks. You mentor new technicians and continue to grow your skills with experienced colleagues and managers.

• Ensure vehicles are maintained and safe for customers.
• Perform preventive maintenance on truck and trailer equipment independently.
• Repair and troubleshoot components such as engines, transmissions, differentials, turbochargers, fuel system components, etc.
• Keep work area clean and safe.
• Use Penske’s tools and technology to log, research, and complete repairs, including basic vehicle diagnostics.

• 3+ years of practical vehicle maintenance experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred; vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair preferred.
• Specialized training and experience troubleshooting major components (engines, transmissions, differentials); OEM training courses, ASE certification, and 608/609 certifications preferred.
• Experience using trade tools, diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Strong problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work well as part of a team.
• Willingness to work in non‑climate‑controlled conditions.
• Basic computer skills.
• Adherence to DOT, OSHA, and Penske safety and maintenance policies.
• Regular, predictable, full attendance.
• Ability to maintain current driver qualification files as required by DOT regulations (including MVR, DOT physical, safety performance history).
• Willingness to travel within the district for customer yards, training sites, and work assignments.
• Successful completion of background and drug screening.

• Frequent movement; stand, walk, climb, bend, sit for extended periods.
• Use hands continuously for grasping, reaching, handling tools.
• Work safely at heights (ladders, elevated platforms).
• Work safely in all weather conditions.
• Navigate workplace safely (see and hear).
• Lift or move up to 50 lbs (23 kg) routinely, occasionally up to 100 lbs (45 kg), and push/pull tires exceeding 100 lbs.

Pay: $33.25 per hour.

Second shift (after 11 am) eligible for $3.00 per hour shift differential; third shift (after 9 pm) eligible for $4.00 per hour shift differential.
