Automotive Technician – Sonoma County Public Infrastructure

• Perform complex diagnostic, repair, maintenance, and other related tasks on the County's light‑duty fleet of vehicles, including SUVs, vans, and pickup trucks.
• Conduct electrical/mechanical diagnostics, vehicle set‑up/upfit and equipment installations, including law‑enforcement vehicle buildup and specialized items.
• Repair gasoline engines, transmissions, pumps, suspensions, and other major vehicle components.
• Perform routine service on fleet vehicles and smog tests per State of California Bureau of Automotive Repair guidelines.
• Use wiring schematics to run wires and install specialized equipment on law‑enforcement vehicles.
• Maintain accurate records using computer systems and repair software.
• Work evenings, weekends, and under varying field conditions during county emergencies as required.

• Valid California Driver’s License with required endorsements.
• Three years of automotive technician/mechanic experience or completion of a two‑year automotive mechanic program plus one year of relevant experience.
• ASE certifications:
  Engine Repair (A1), Brakes (A5), Electrical/Electronic Systems (A6), HVAC (A7), Engine Performance (A8) required for Smog Technician licensure.
• Current Smog Check Technician license required.
• Possession of required hand tools for all assigned work.

• ASE Master Automobile Technician Certification or related A2, A3, A4 certifications.
• Experience with computer data entry, inventory, parts orders, and billing records.
• Strong English communication skills, both oral and written.

• Salary advancement after 1,040 hours (6 months full‑time); annual performance increases thereafter.
