The RoleThe HR Manager is responsible for supporting our employees and leadership team through practical, fair, and compliant HR practices. You will be the go‑to person for employee relations, training, and compliance. This role works closely with supervisors and ownership and plays a key role in maintaining a positive and respectful workplace.
Key Responsibilities Hiring & New Employees- Post job openings, interview applicants, and help choose the right people
- Handle new hire paperwork and lead orientation and onboarding
- Run annual performance reviews for 60+ employees
- Conduct 90‑day reviews with regular check‑ins and supervisor input, and report updates directly to ownership
- Help supervisors improve communication, leadership, and people management
- Handle employee concerns, conflicts, and complaints in a practical, fair, and respectful way
- Lead disciplinary actions, terminations, and layoffs when needed, following the law and company policy
- Manage workers’ compensation claims and support employees through the process
- Maintain employee payroll records, including hours worked and time off balances
- Make sure payroll information is accurate, including deductions and with holdings
- Manage benefits and leave programs, including medical leave and state disability
- Keep the employee handbook and HR policies up to date and easy to understand
- Help make sure the company follows employment and workplace laws
- Lead safety training and required workplace training
- Run monthly safety committee meetings, help identify problems, track solutions, and report progress to ownership
- Help plan employee events, anniversaries, and celebrations
- Fluent in both Spanish and English, required
- At least 5 years of hands‑on HR experience
- Strong understanding of California and federal employment laws
- Honest, approachable, and able to build trust with employees and leadership
- Confident handling of sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism
- Well organized, dependable, and detail‑oriented
- Experience using HR systems, payroll platforms, and timekeeping systems
- SHRM or HRCI certification is a plus, but not required
- Strong, verifiable professional references
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field required
- Pay range: $80,000 to $90,000 per year
