Job Description & How to Apply Below
A postdoctoral position is available in association with an ongoing FAPESP Young Investigator Project, to be carried out at the Department of Parasitology, Institute of Biomedical Sciences, University of São Paulo (ICB-USP, Brazil).
The project aims to investigate cellular diversity, ploidy dynamics, and genome organization during the sexual cycle of Leishmania, with a particular emphasis on rare and transient cell populations that arise in the insect vector. The work combines experimental infections in sand flies, wet-lab approaches in cell and molecular biology, advanced microscopy, and single-cell genomic analyses, integrating experimental and computational perspectives.
Project overview
- Experimental infections of Leishmania in sand fly vectors and recovery of parasite population
- Generation and analysis of single-cell datasets (scRNA-seq and/or multiomic approaches)
- Bioinformatic analysis integrating transcriptomic, genomic, and ploidy-related data• Wet-lab experimental work, including parasite culture, generation and analysis of genetically modified lines, and molecular assays
- Cell biology and microscopy, including imaging-based characterization of cellular states
Position Requirements
Doctorate,
3+ Years
work experience - PhD in Parasitology, Vector Biology, Bioinformatics, or a closely related field
- Demonstrated experience with insect vectors and parasite life-cycle studies
- Strong expertise in bioinformatic analysis of high-throughput sequencing data, preferably including single-cell approaches
- Wet-lab experimental research, including cellular and/or molecular biology is considered a strong asset
- Ability to integrate experimental work, microscopy, and computational analysis
- Motivation to develop an independent research project in vector biology and/or parasite–vector interactions
Required Language Skills:
- English - Very good
Additional Information / Benefits
- Participation in a FAPESP Young Investigator Project
- Training and active work across vector biology, wet lab experimentation, microscopy, and bioinformatics
