Cancer Center Jobs Genetic Risk Community Education and Access Coordinator

This position is part of the Office of Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) at Moffitt Cancer Center. The Genetic Risk Community Education and Access Coordinator will work closely with Moffitt’s Genetic Counselors and community partners to bridge the gap between the Genetic Risk Assessment Service (GRAS) and underserved populations. The role supports genetic testing access and ovarian cancer prevention education through a community-based model that includes outreach, education, and coordination of genetic services.

Position Highlights:
  • Serves as a vital link between Moffitt’s genetic services and the community.
  • Delivers pre-test genetic education and facilitates the genetic testing process.
  • Collaborates with internal teams and external community organizations to promote awareness and access.
  • Develops and maintains educational resources tailored to community needs.
  • Advocates for equitable access to genetic testing and counseling services.
The Ideal Candidate :
  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • General knowledge and understanding of genetics.
  • Training or interest in phlebotomy.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Residency in Sarasota County.
Responsibilities:
  • Identify eligible patients for genetic counseling and testing.
  • Collect and enter family history and medical data into systems.
  • Provide pre-test education, obtain informed consent, and complete test requisitions.
  • Coordinate biospecimen collection and liaise with external laboratories.
  • Plan and deliver community education sessions on genetic risk and testing.
  • Develop culturally relevant educational materials.
  • Build partnerships with local organizations to promote services.
  • Advocate for community needs in strategy development.
  • Track and report on outreach activities and testing outcomes.
Credentials and

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field (e.g., Biology, Public Health, Health Education, Communication) with at least 2 years of experience in a community setting, including outreach or education programming, and a minimum of 1 year of experience providing genetic education.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic office equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
