Position: Maintenance Worker I - II Sewer

Job Description

The City of Saratoga Springs currently has an opening for Sewer Maintenance I or II. This is a full-time position with the Saratoga Springs Public Works Department, of approximately 40 hours per week. This position will work under the direction of the Assistant Public Works Director. The Public Works Department will try to provide the successful applicant with opportunities to grow and progress within the department.

This position is responsible for assisting in the ongoing operation and maintenance of the City's sanitary sewer system throughout the City. This position also functions as one of the City's principal "on-call" employees for after-hours emergencies related to areas of responsibility and snow plowing.

Job Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Routine Maintenance of the City's sewer infrastructure.
  • Jetting of sewer lines.
  • Inspections of manholes.
  • Maintenance of sewer lift stations.
  • General maintenance duties of public facilities as assigned.
  • Assist in snow removal of City streets and facilities and perform maintenance on snow removal equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Maintenance I

Education & Experience:

  • A High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • No experience is required; however preference will be given to applicants with some experience working in water systems, sewer systems, or a related field.
Special Qualifications & Certifications
  • Must possess a valid Utah CDL class A Driver's License, with a Tanker endorsement or be able to obtain one within 6 months
  • Sewer Collections I or II certification within twelve (12) months of hiring.
  • OSHA Confined Space Certification.
  • OSHA Trench Safety Training.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification.

Maintenance II

Education & Experience
  • A High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of experience working with public sewer facilities
Special Qualifications & Certifications
  • Must possess a valid Utah CDL class A Driver's License, with a Tanker endorsement or be able to obtain one within 6 months
  • Sewer Collections II certification.
  • OSHA Confined Space Certification.
  • OSHA Trench Safety Training.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrate the ability to follow City policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of sewer systems and their functions, operations and routine maintenance needs.
  • Knowledge of basic computer operations and applications.
  • Knowledge of correct use of the English language and vocabulary.
  • Ability to direct and work with seasonal sewer employees, as well as work with public works staff.
  • Ability to maintain records and task lists.
  • Ability operate moderate to heavy equipment that is needed to perform maintenance duties.
  • Ability review and interpret basic to moderately difficult building and construction plans for public utility systems.
  • Ability to communicate in a concise and effective manner.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with developers, contractors, citizens, coworkers, and supervisors.
  • Ability to exercise sound and good judgment at all times, but especially in emergency situations.
  • Ability to interact with the public in emotional situations while maintaining professional and polite demeanor.
  • Ability to deal with the public in a pleasant, courteous, and calm manner.
