Position Overview
Part‑Time Noncredit Older Adult Academic Forum Instructor at West Valley College, Saratoga, CA. Open date: 10/14/2025. Position remains open until filled.
Responsibilities- Provide instruction for assigned courses, including preparation for in‑class or online/distance education activities, evaluation of students’ work, and consultation with students outside of class and/or online.
- Maintain accurate class and other records required by the college, submit attendance rosters and grade reports when due, and follow course outlines as filed in the instruction offices.
- Maintain office hours each week (0.5 hours per week per section), observe, support, and enforce the regulations, policies and programs of the District and college.
- Provide each student with a written course syllabus at the beginning of the course, as per instructions in the Faculty Handbook, and refer students to appropriate college sources for counseling and other student services.
- Assist students by providing advice on requirements for successful achievement in the members’ area of expertise, work cooperatively within the college community, and foster an environment that protects academic freedom.
- Foster a positive working environment free from harassment, prejudice and/or bias, demonstrating respect for the dignity of each individual.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree with a major related to the subject of the course taught, plus either:
- Thirty hours (two semester units) of coursework in understanding the needs of the older adult, or
- One year of professional experience working with older adults.
OR
- Associate degree with a major related to the subject of the course taught, plus two years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taught, plus sixty hours (four semester units) of coursework in understanding the needs of the older adult.
Understanding and sensitivity to diverse backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff is required.
