ABOUT THE ROLE
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Safety Advisor, East Gas to join our Trans Alta team based in Sarnia.
Reporting to the EHS Supervisor, East Gas, as the Safety Advisor, you are responsible for ensuring that our business operations consistently meet and exceed all health, safety, regulatory requirements, industry standards, and internal safety policies and standards.
This is a full-time, safety-sensitive
, site-based position located at our cogeneration facility in Sarnia, Ontario
.
The successful candidate will be required to complete pre-employment testing.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
Assist in the rollout of corporate health and safety initiatives to Trans Alta employeesWork with the business unit to establish, maintain and test emergency response plansEnsure all Health and Safety incidents are managed according to established policies and standards. Including leading root cause investigationsProactively identify plans to reduce hazards, hazard exposures, and hazardous activities that pose a significant risk to the organizationEnsure that safety policies, standards, and procedures are aligned with evolving regulatory requirements and adhered to at our East Gas facilitiesProvide expert advice on safety systems, trends, response actions, and interpretation of health and safety regulationsDevelop the programs and initiatives to build and sustain an industry leading safety culture that applies to both Trans Alta employees and contractors, including mentoring, coaching, advising, and supporting safety inspections by local managementEnsure activities are conducted according to area-specific Health and Safety systemsMonitor and report on numerous health and safety metrics and key performance indicatorsEnsure major maintenance outages are conducted safely and in accordance with established turnaround safety management plansEnsure contractor safety plans are reviewed and acknowledged prior to work commencementEnsure all site safety training is up to date and meets Trans Alta’s requirements and is consistent with Ontario OH&S Act and RegulationsABOUT YOU
To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience:
Certifications
Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or equivalent professional safety designation desirableDegree, diploma, or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety from a recognized Post-secondary Institution, or equivalent combination of experienceNCSO and CHSC certification considered an assetExpertise in developing and implementing Health & Safety Management Systems3-7 years of progressively responsible experience in occupational health and safety in an industrial facility or industrial construction environmentQualifications
Possess a broad knowledge of health and safety regulationsDemonstrated understanding of operations safety and process safetyExperience with contractor safety management and practicesExperience in safety aspects related to power plant operationsThorough knowledge of safety theory and practice, as it relates to an industrial settingConfidence and ability to interact and influence workers and contractorsKnowledge of what constitutes a strong safety culture and how to sustain and demonstrate a commitment to…
