Position:
Electronics Technologist (EL‑02 through EL‑05 levels)

Salary: $52,001 – $67,084

Responsibilities

Provide technical support to the Canadian Coast Guard and Fisheries & Oceans Canada.

Install, commission, maintain and repair electronic equipment, including ship and harbour radars, gyrocompasses, ultrasonic depth finders, satellite positioning equipment, satellite communications, radio telecommunications, networking equipment, public address systems and phone exchange equipment.

Perform preventative and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and testing using digital and analog test equipment such as power meters, signal generators and oscilloscopes.

Travel to offshore sites, shipyards, remote locations and vessels at sea as required, including work on ships in port or at sea.

Assist in training and mentoring as part of the Marine Electronic Development (MELDEV) program.

Qualifications

Secondary school diploma and completion of a post‑secondary electronics technology program of at least two years, or an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience (post‑secondary program in electronics engineering technology followed by five years of relevant on‑the‑job training, or completion of DP2).

Experience using computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database systems.

Knowledge of electronics theory, digital and analog concepts, and basic electronic test equipment.

Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.

Integrity, judgment, initiative, dependability, and teamwork.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience maintaining or installing land‑based or ship‑based navigation or communication equipment.

Experience with test equipment such as power meters, signal generators, and oscilloscopes.

Knowledge of optical and radio‑frequency electronics, radio‑wave propagation, antennas, and network fundamentals.

Conditions of Employment

Must agree to possible relocation within the region for the first seven years.

Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, and in a 24/7 operational environment.

Must be willing to travel by ship, boat, automobile, plane, helicopter, ATV, snowmobile, etc.

Must possess a valid, unrestricted driver’s licence.

Must pass a Health Canada pre‑placement fitness assessment.

Must accept deployment to isolated posts as defined by the National Joint Council Directive.

Must be willing to work on ships at sea or in port.
