The Position
Operations Engineer – Responsible for providing Operations and Maintenance technical support, delivering maintenance projects, and optimization/troubleshooting activities at the Sarnia Fractionation Facility and other facilities in the Great Lakes District.
Responsibilities
Develop and recommend project scopes to improve performance in terms of reliability, safety, environmental performance, efficiency, and net revenue.
Provide engineering support to ensure maximum benefit from process or operational changes without negatively impacting safety or operability.
Provide technical support to troubleshoot process and operations related issues and optimize operations at facilities in the Great Lakes District.
Lead or assist projects related to process efficiency, process troubleshooting, and day‑to‑day facility operations; provide technical guidance.
Lead and manage process improvement initiatives, including SSOP updates, PSV regulatory management, energy management, and conservation.
Assist with projects related to plant piping, rotating equipment, storage, pipelines, and rail/truck loading; review applicable codes, develop construction drawings, and manage procurement and contractor evaluations.
Assist large expansion projects by collaborating with project managers, EPC contract engineers, and engineering team members.
Ensure compliance with standards and regulatory requirements, managing licenses, facility upgrades, and HSE projects.
Perform economic analysis of projects and recognize key business drivers.
Lead and participate in process safety evaluations (HAZOP, LOPA, MOC) of facility assets and new projects.
Perform facility and equipment performance tests, participate in incident investigations, process and equipment failure analysis, and emergency response drills.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Chemical or Petroleum Engineering preferred; registered Professional Engineer (PEO) is an asset.
Proficient in Aspen HYSYS modeling, mass & energy balancing, thermodynamics, and transport phenomena.
Experience sizing PSVs, control valves, and regulators.
Minimum 10 years of facility/operations/project experience in the oil and gas industry.
Knowledge of industry codes and regulatory requirements.
Knowledgeable in project management processes.
Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Safety certifications relevant to the industry are an asset.
Working Conditions
Position based at Keyera Sarnia Fractionation Facility; may require travel to other field office locations using a company vehicle.
Required to travel to the United States of America without restrictions.
Salary
$135,000 – $165,000, depending on qualifications.
