Thurber has an exciting opportunity for an experienced  Construction Materials Field Technician , with at least one season (approximately eight (8) months) of direct experience, to join our team in  Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

This role supports on-call field-based construction materials testing in and around Saskatoon.

Responsibilities

Provide construction inspection and quality control/assurance testing for various on-call field-based construction projects;

Conduct field compaction testing of soils;

Carry out construction inspection for various projects;

Carry out field concrete testing as per CCIL/CSA requirements;

Conduct pile construction monitoring for driven steel and cast-in-place concrete piles;

Laboratory testing of field materials;

Ensure all work conforms to CCIL, ASTM and other company and industry standards;

Effectively communicate results and observations to clients, contractors and project engineers verbally and in written formats;

Liaise with project engineers and client’s site representatives; and,

Travel to local and remote construction sites.

Qualifications and Assets

At least one season (approximately eight (8) months) of direct experience carrying out field-based construction materials testing (concrete, soils, asphalt, aggregates, etc.);

Strong organizational, interpersonal and English spoken and written communication skills;

Concrete Testing Certificate from CCIL/CSA is required;

Must be available to work variable shifts based on construction schedules which include weekends and extended work hours;

Must possess a valid Class 5 driver license; and,

Must be able to lift and carry 25 kg at chest height to handle samples and equipment.

Additional Information

This position would appeal to those who thrive in a fast-paced field environment working on a variety of in and out of town projects;

Some sites require pre-access and post incident drug and alcohol testing;

Will be required to provide a 3-year driver abstract and a 3-year insurance claims experience letter; and,

Criminal Names Record Check is required to operate Nuclear Densometers for compaction testing.
