Work at CBC/Radio-Canada At CBC/Radio-Canada, we create content that informs, entertains and connects Canadians on multiple platforms. Our successes and accomplishments are driven by embodying and upholding values, which include creativity, integrity, inclusiveness and relevance.

Do you think you have the ability and drive to keep up with this exciting, ever-changing industry? Whether it be in front of the camera, on air, online or behind the scenes, you would be joining a team that thrives on making connections and telling stories that are important to Canadians.

Unposting Date: :59 PMThe Battlefords region is home to a vibrant community spirit, outstanding outdoor adventure, an economy rich in agriculture and energy, and it could be home to you too.

CBC Saskatchewan is hiring a reporter-editor for our new bureau in North Battleford, an area that is a vital link in the social, cultural and political infrastructure of north-central Saskatchewan. As the base for the Battlefords Agency Tribal Chiefs, representing seven Treaty 6 First Nations, and within the Métis Nation homeland, your reporting will also play a key role in the CBC News strategy to connect and amplify Indigenous content to audiences in Saskatchewan and across Canada.

Adaptability is key to the role of reporter-editor. One day you could be covering a hyper-local story that matters to residents of north central Saskatchewan, or working behind the scenes to line up interviews for a morning radio program. The next day you’re off to a federal announcement on agricultural support and contributing to broadcast and digital platforms live. Central to all of your coverage is ensuring voices from the region are reflected in our journalism across digital, radio, social, streaming and  this role, you’ll operate independently, under the direction of the CBC Saskatchewan assignment desk.

While you’re comfortable taking the initiative and working solo to get things done, you will have a lot of daily support from your colleagues at both the CBC Saskatoon and CBC Regina stations, as well as from the CBC bureaus province wide. We’re a collaborative group, here to help you in your daily assignment. You will also have access to ongoing training opportunities to support your development with CBC News.

Affordable housing, short commutes and easy-access to year round activities make this an ideal location for those who prioritize quality of life. Outdoor enthusiasts will love the easy access to lakes, river trails, fishing and snowmobiling to name just a few. Located on major highways, North Battleford is about a 90-minute drive from both Saskatoon and Lloydminster (also home to a CBC News bureau). The

role requires you to be full-time on-site in our North Battleford bureau. You will be provided with a vehicle to get to stories throughout the region.

What you’ll be doing :

Pitch, research, gather and produce original story ideas for digital, social, radio, streaming and TV programming that will engage and inform audiences, deepen community connections and elevate a range of voices, especially those who have typically been underrepresented in media.

Respond quickly to breaking news events as they unfold.

Distill large amounts of complex information under tight time constraints.

Cultivate and develop working relationships with a large pool of contacts and community members.

Collaborate with colleagues across CBC to develop and break stories, plan and produce features and coordinate long-term coverage.

Ensure CBC journalistic standards are met and that our stories are fair, balanced, accurate, thoughtful, immediate and resonate with the communities we serve.

What you bring:

Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced daily news environment, or an equivalent position in a deadline driven environment with transferable skills.

Ability to work independently with superior problem-solving skills.

Ability to generate,…
