Northland is powered by our people. As Instrumentation Technician, you will be involved in the operation and maintenance of our nominal 260-megawatt power plant that will be operated as a baseload generating station. You will report to the Maintenance Manager and in his absence, his designate and take your directions from them accordingly. This role is on-site at Northland’s North Battleford Energy Centre.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the health and safety of yourself, other NBPLP employees, contractors, and visitors by following the OHS regulations and NBPLP safe work practices.
  • Work directly with and take direction from senior Instrument Journeyman.
  • Strive to maintain an effective maintenance and repair of all on site instruments.
  • Participate in trade related or safety training when needed.
  • Perform routine calibrations and ensure proper documentation.
  • Performing regular back-ups of DCS/PLC software and make programming/graphics changes as needed.
  • Record keeping and documentation regarding NERC compliance.
  • Installation, configuration, and maintenance of various IT/OT networks.
  • Installation, configuration, and maintenance of various instruments/analyzers.
  • Communicate all malfunctions and equipment deficiencies to supervisor and ensure the information is entered into the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for timely correction.
  • Complete various transactions into and out of inventory management software.
  • Enter, complete, and add comments to site electronic work order management software.
  • Provide DCS/PLC support by receiving the appropriate training to understand the systems.
  • Provide input regarding spares recommendation for all electrical & instrumentation equipment.
  • Valve repair and configuration.
  • Assist other maintenance team members with tasks when required.
  • Assist with shipping and receiving, help with site clean-ups, and complete other duties assigned by management.

  • Strong troubleshooter: You have the ability to troubleshoot various instruments, valves, or logic to find and correct issues. Experience with DCS, PLC, AMS, Modbus, HART, and other industrial communication protocols is an asset.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Holder of Interprovincial Journeyman Industrial Instrument Technician certificate
