Senior Structural Engineer  – Provide engineering services primarily for heavy industrial projects, largely related to mining, and may support large and small hydropower projects. Participate in a wide range of projects covering concrete foundations and structural steel design, including layout development, structural analysis, client interaction, site investigations, inspections, and rehabilitation designs.

Responsible for preparing engineering calculations, supervising designers and junior engineers, and developing technical specifications, datasheets and reports. Reports to Lead Structural Engineer on large projects and to Project Manager or Engineering Manager on small to medium sized projects.

Key Responsibilities

Assist the Engineering Manager/project manager with delivery of project requirements related to scope, cost, and schedule for large projects.

Lead a structural team to deliver small to medium sized projects, managing scope, cost, schedule, and quality.

Manage small structural sustaining capital projects.

Ensure implementation of safety and integrity principles in structural documentation.

Prepare and review engineering calculations.

Prepare technical specifications and engineering drawings for construction and rehabilitation of concrete and steel structures.

Contribute to technical design or inspection memos and reports.

Provide input to engineering, operating and capital cost estimates.

Prepare and/or review project standard specifications and design criteria.

Review and seal documents and drawings as required.

Perform site visits to various client sites for review, inspection, and assessment.

Assist in preparing proposals and client interactions.

Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers on the project team.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential

A recognized degree in civil/structural engineering from an accredited college or university.

Registration as a professional engineer.

8+ years of structural engineering experience, with at least 3 years of relevant experience on heavy industrial projects, preferably mining and processing facilities.

Sound understanding of design engineering codes and technical standards.

Good communication, interpersonal, planning, and organizational skills; ability to function with minimal supervision.

Experience with Math Cad, Staad.

Pro, SAP 2000, or similar structural analysis software.

Knowledge of 3D data‑centric design systems.

Familiarity with North American codes and standards.

Ability to lead a team, delegate tasks, and effectively supervise and mentor others.

Preferred

Sound knowledge of engineering management systems.

Prior experience working on hydropower projects.

Experience in the use of procedures and workflows in project execution.

Collaborate on exciting projects to develop innovative solutions.
