Raise is currently hiring a Civil Engineer on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client is a Canadian global leader in exploration, mine engineering, and environmental protection.
Note:
The primary pay rate is based on the rate for an incorporated contractor who owns their own business. However, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in a T4 arrangement, where applicable.
Description
The Civil Engineer in this role will perform and oversee civil engineering design for large-scale industrial and infrastructure projects across our operations. Reporting within the engineering team, you will manage civil scope development, support 3D modeling and 2D draft generation, author technical specifications and work packages, and ensure all design deliverables adhere to ’s standards, regulatory requirements, and industry codes.
This role involves a mix of office-based design oversight, project planning, team mentorship, and site inspections across ’s northern site locations and Ontario facilities.
Responsibilities
Design & Project Execution
Civil Design Oversight:
Lead and oversee the civil design of major construction and site infrastructure projects, including access roads, earthworks, drainage/stormwater systems, pipelines, dams, and structural foundations.
Scope & Lifecycle Planning:
Develop project scopes, execution plans, and cost estimates to support business cases throughout the full asset lifecycle.
Work Package Development:
Author and revise technical specifications, scope of supply documents, Bills of Materials (BOMs), Material Take-Offs (MTOs), and Construction Work Packages (CWPs).
CAD & Modeling
Collaboration:
Partner closely with Civil Designers to produce and review Civil 3D models, 2D construction drawings, and detail sheets.
Quality & Compliance Assurance:
Ensure all civil design work strictly complies with processes, site design criteria, relevant building codes, and environmental regulations.
Site Oversight & Team Leadership
Site Inspections:
Conduct field inspections of completed and ongoing civil works to ensure strict compliance with engineering drawings, industry codes, and safety standards.
Resource Management:
Prepare detailed execution schedules, allocate engineering resources, and coordinate multi-disciplinary interface requirements.
Mentorship & Supervision:
Provide technical direction and oversight to junior engineers, CAD technicians, and third-party EPC/construction contractors.
Qualifications
4 to 9 years of direct civil engineering experience within heavy industrial, infrastructure, or resource extraction environments.
Mining Industry Context:
Demonstrated previous project experience within the mining or heavy industrial sector is strictly required.
Technical Knowledge:
In-depth knowledge of Canadian building codes, provincial environmental regulations, civil design standards, and safety guidelines.
Software Proficiency:
Familiarity with 3D viewer and point-cloud software platforms (e.g., Navisworks, Jetstream, point cloud tools) and working knowledge of Civil 3D workflows.
Communication &
Collaboration:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting technical data, writing comprehensive engineering reports, and working collaboratively across disciplines.
Personal Attributes:
High degree of self-motivation, strong work ethic, reliability, and the ability to drive deliverables forward independently.
Education and Certifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited post-secondary institution.
Professional Registration:
Active Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation registered with APEGS (Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan), or immediately eligible for registration.
