Traffic Officer – Saskatchewan Highway Patrol

The Ministry of Community Safety is offering a challenging career opportunity as a Traffic Officer with the Saskatchewan Highway Patrol, focused on protecting highway infrastructure and ensuring the safety of all road users. The ministry seeks motivated individuals for permanent positions across the province who are committed to public safety, capable of working in demanding environments, and prepared to enforce transportation legislation for commercial and private vehicles.

• Professionalism, sound judgment, strong communication skills, and ability to interpret and apply federal and provincial regulations.
• Physically capable of conducting vehicle inspections, handling firearms and force tools, and responding to emergencies as part of the Provincial Protection and Response Team.
• Independence, teamwork, and ability to interact respectfully with the public, industry, and partner agencies.
• Knowledge of transportation legislation, commercial vehicle safety standards, investigative techniques, legal and court procedures, and public education practices.
• Mandatory requirements:
  
  POPAT completion, valid driver’s licence, First Aid with AED, and psychological suitability for law enforcement.
• Training includes 22 weeks at the Saskatchewan Police College and 10 weeks of Commercial Vehicle Enforcement instruction.

• Inspect commercial vehicles and issue charges as necessary.
• Conduct investigations and respond to 911 calls.
• Assist police agencies, attend accidents, prepare reports, and deliver industry education.
