Job DescriptionThe Area Division Lead in the Department of Surgery, Division of Orthopedic Surgery, is a key leader in Saskatchewan health care, partnering with system leaders to achieve our province’s health care goals.
Reporting to the Area Department Lead, Surgery, this position works closely with the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) and health system colleagues in the development and achievement of strategy by identifyinggaps and needs. The role supports strategy through operational and business planning, monitoring, reporting,and course correction.
The Area Division Lead fosters an innovative working climate and client-centered culture, workingcross-functionally across the organization to support operations and develop partnerships with system and community stakeholders.
The primary purpose of this position is to ensure seamless integration of academic activities, qualityimprovement initiatives, and clinical standards within the Division, while ensuring operational standards areembedded in day-to-day work. The Area Division Lead reports to the Area Department Lead on matters related tocredentialing, privileging, and practitioner staff management according to Provincial Bylaws.
The position collaborates with the Area Division administrative structure and divisional members on operational planning, workforce planning, development of patient value streams, and initiatives aligned withthe SHA strategic plan. Care delivery is approached through team-based collaboration.
While academic and clinical service contributions are expected, the priority of this role is leadership of the Division within the area. The Area Division Lead is appointed to the medical staff of the SHA and holds an academic appointment in the College of Medicine. Responsibilities include supporting academic and clinical work, medical education programs, research activities, and provision of patient care.
This is a dynamic and complex leadership environment requiring strong clinical competence, leadership skills,and an understanding of academic and clinical priorities within the Area Division.
Job Qualifications Job Qualifications- Licensed medical practitioner in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan.
- Member of the medical staff of the SHA and holds an academic appointment in the College of Medicine.
- Operational-level experience as a medical leader in partnership with administrative leaders in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.
- 3+ years of progressive leadership experience.
- Knowledge of and experience with health quality improvement processes and initiatives.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- Advanced education in Health Care Administration, Public Administration, or Leadership Studies.
- Participation in the Canadian Medical Association’s Physician Leadership Institute.
- Additional training or education in leadership/management.
