The Role
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist to join the Neurorehabilitation Unit (NRU) within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and develop specialist occupational therapy services for patients with highly complex neurological and major trauma rehabilitation needs. Working as part of a skilled multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in delivering expert assessment, rehabilitation and service development.

A Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy with current HCPC registration is essential.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

Neuro Rehabilitation Unit, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital

Fixed‑term for 9 months

Monday, Wednesday & Fridays 08:30 to 16:00, Tuesday & Thursdays 08:30 to 16:30

Key Responsibilities

Lead the delivery of specialist occupational therapy services within the Level 2 Neurorehabilitation Unit

Manage a complex caseload of patients with neurological, brain injury and major trauma rehabilitation needs

Undertake expert assessment, treatment planning, rehabilitation and discharge management for patients with highly complex presentations

Provide clinical leadership, supervision and support to occupational therapy staff and wider multidisciplinary colleagues

Contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, clinical audit and research activity

Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, patients, carers and external agencies to achieve the best possible outcomes

Support education, training and professional development for colleagues, students and healthcare professionals across the service

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/​or experience required to do the job

Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy with current HCPC registration

Significant post‑graduate occupational therapy experience, including experience at a senior level within a relevant specialty

Extensive experience working in neurorehabilitation, major trauma rehabilitation or a related specialist area

Advanced clinical assessment, decision‑making and rehabilitation skills for patients with complex needs

Experience of leading, developing and evaluating services within a multidisciplinary environment

Knowledge of clinical governance, quality improvement, audit, research and evidence‑based practice

Strong leadership, communication, teaching and staff development skills with a commitment to continuous professional development
