The College of Nursing at the University of Saskatchewan is the largest non-departmentalized college at USask and one of the most geographically distributed, with two campuses and eight sites across the province.
The College is seeking a Lab Technician to support nursing clinical skills labs at the Muenster site. This role is well suited to a motivated healthcare professional who values independent work, maintains high standards, and enjoys collaborating as part of a province-wide team.
Position Overview
Based in Muenster, the Lab Technician supports high-quality simulated learning experiences for nursing students by managing the day-to-day operation of multiple nursing clinical skills labs at the assigned site. The position reports to the Provincial Lab Manager located in Prince Albert and requires a high degree of independence, organization, and attention to detail.
While working autonomously on site, the Lab Technician works closely with lab instructors and maintains active collaboration with Lab Technician colleagues at other distributed locations across the province. This role is part of a provincially coordinated lab services team, supporting consistent standards, shared practices, and effective communication across all sites.
The position involves frequent interruptions, changing priorities, strict deadlines, and competing demands. Moderate physical activity is required. Strong time management, adaptability, and organizational skills are essential. Significant interaction with students and faculty requires excellent communication and customer service skills.
Key Responsibilities
Provide operational support for multiple nursing clinical skills labsPrepare, set up, support, and clean lab spaces and equipment for scheduled lab sessionsEnsure equipment, manikins, and task trainers are functioning properlyPerform routine maintenance of simulation equipmentEnsure adequate supplies, trainers, and equipment are available for lab activities on siteCollaborate with the Provincial Lab Manager to address any deficiencies or discrepancies in lab requirementsMaintain adequate consumable supply inventoryMaintain an organized, professional, hospital-like lab environmentSupport smooth lab delivery while maintaining high standards of care and safetyPerform other related duties as assignedRequirements
Education
Grade 12 requiredNursing education required; preference given to candidates previously registered as a Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or Continuing Care Aide (CCA)Experience
Minimum of two years of healthcare-related experienceSkills and Attributes
