Nature and Scope
The Maintenance & Security Coordinator plays a critical role as part of the team that provides a safe, clean and efficient environment s position will positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIIT's vision, mission, and mandate.

General Accountability
The incumbent is responsible for providing building maintenance services along with all related aspects of safety and security. The Maintenance & Security Coordinator focuses on facility operations that mitigate risk and ensure the safety of SIIT's employees, visitors and assets.

Specific Accountabilities
Maintenance & Administration

Ensure that building electrical, mechanical and HVAC systems are maintained and operated to provide a safe, clean and comfortable environment

Undertake efficient and preventive maintenance practices

Perform administrative duties including maintaining logs and certification records related to mechanical and assisting with life safety equipment of a facility

Organize daily and seasonal work of contract interior cleaning and exterior building service providers

Repair or replace facility equipment and components by having a broad knowledge of building materials and the ability to correctly and safely operate a variety of tools

Respond to student/employee inquiries and equipment alarms, and formulate a corrective action to maintain the safe operation of facilities

Purchase order coordination: distribution to vendors, creation of purchase orders, appropriate coding, and ensuring established procedures are followed

Create and maintain electronic floor layout diagrams in collaboration with appropriate personnel

Health & Safety

Ensure emergency and life safety equipment is operational by assisting with inspections and testing

Contribute to SIIT's strategic effectiveness by participating or attending SIIT committees and meetings as required

Assist with the implementation of SIIT's security/safety standards and policies

Respond to health and safety concerns and take the appropriate action to address issues

Communicate with contractors, building owners and other parties to resolve problems that impact public health, fire safety and structural sufficiency within SIIT facilities

Maintain physical and electronic records and issue reports of inspections, including action taken and recommendations

Security & Compliance

Assist in the development of security procedures and programs

Assist and support all sites in the execution of emergency response exercises (notification, evacuation drills, fire scenarios, and security threats, etc.)

Respond to emergencies and security issues, and ensure adequate preparedness to respond to and mitigate risks

Assist with the installation and operation of security equipment and alarm systems

Monitor security industry best practices by researching and identifying new technologies, equipment and materials

Required Qualifications and Experience
A diploma or certification related to commercial building maintenance and operations, with preference given to candidates with 5 or more years' experience. A valid Firemen's Certificate, Health & Safety credentials and trades related training are considered assets. A combination of education and experience may be considered. Must be in good physical condition in order to perform a variety of manual activities.

Knowledge of First Nations culture and organization is an asset. Incumbent must have a reliable vehicle and valid driver's license as travel is required. Computer & Communication skills.

As this position is considered safety sensitive, the incumbent will be subject to testing as per SIIT's Alcohol and Substances policy.
