Job Description

Director of Finance and Operations

SPG is seeking a strategic and collaborative Director of Finance and Operations to provide leadership across the organization’s financial management and operational functions.

As a member of the Leadership Team, the Director will oversee budgeting, financial reporting, audit coordination, financial compliance, and business analysis. The role is also responsible for key corporate operations, including office management, information technology, payroll, employee benefits, insurance, and facilities.

This is an opportunity for an experienced or developing finance leader who can balance strong financial stewardship with practical operational decision-making. The successful candidate will report to the Executive Director, and work closely with the Leadership Team, Board of Directors, and the Audit and Finance Committee while leading and supporting a small finance and administrative team.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead budgeting, financial reporting, and external audit processes.
  • Prepare quarterly financial statements and variance analyses.
  • Develop financial policies and ensure compliance with legislation, organizational policies, and funding agreements.
  • Provide financial analysis and support strategic planning and decision-making.

Operations

  • Oversee corporate operations, including information technology, payroll, benefits, insurance, facilities, and office administration.
  • Support governance policy reviews and serve as SPG's Privacy Officer.
  • Promote effective stewardship of organizational resources.

Lead and Develop the Team

  • Provide leadership and direction to the finance and administrative team.
  • Develop and monitor departmental plans and budgets.
  • Set clear expectations, delegate effectively, and support employee development.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and respectful workplace.
  • Oversee performance management and routine supervisory responsibilities.

Contribute to Organizational Leadership

  • Participate as an active member of the Leadership Team.
  • Provide advice on organizational strategy, governance, and policy matters.
  • Support the consistent application of organizational policies.
  • Lead or contribute to special projects and prepare Board reports and presentations as required.
Skills

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum three years of experience in a finance leadership role.
  • Experience in the not-for-profit or agriculture sector would be considered an asset.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, empower, coach, and positively motivate employees.
  • Strong financial management, budgeting, reporting, compliance, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to balance financial compliance requirements with operational effectiveness.

Saskatchewan Pulse Crop Development Board (Saskatchewan Pulse Growers or SPG) was established in 1984 as a grower-led organization to develop the pulse industry in Saskatchewan.

SPG collects levy from and supports the development of pulse and soybean crops in Saskatchewan. SPG is governed by a nine-member grower-elected Board of Directors to ensure that the organization’s strategic priorities are carried out. SPG undertakes work in research and development, market development and market access initiatives, and communications programs to pursue our strategic priorities .
