Royal Columbian provides the highest level of care to the most critically ill and injured from throughout the region and province. We are a provincial referral centre for cardiac care, trauma, neurosciences, high-risk maternity, neonatal intensive care, and mental health. No other hospital in the province provides this level of care, or offers all these services, on one site or in such high volumes.

Right now, Royal Columbian is undergoing a $1.49 billion multi-year, multi-phase redevelopment, one of the largest government-funded health care redevelopments in BC’s history.

Position overview

Joining a team of passionate, collaborative fundraisers supporting one of BC’s leading critical care hospitals, the Development Coordinator, Philanthropy, will play a primary role in building, growing and monitoring a pipeline of major gift prospects. They will also provide administrative, logistical and relationship management support for Philanthropy team leadership, including event logistics and data management and reporting.

Responsibilities
  • Proactively identify individual, corporate and foundation prospects using publicly available information.
  • Conduct research utilizing internal and external resources to evaluate financial capacity, willingness to give and charitable interests.
  • Identify and interpret financial and wealth indicators and their potential impact on giving including stock transactions, real estate values and corporate holdings.
  • Develop and create capacity ratings based on industry standard formulas and an understanding of the impact of life stage and wealth indicators on capacity.
  • Provide actionable insights and recommendations to enhance prospect and donor engagement.
  • Produce in-depth, well-written, confidential profiles for fundraisers and volunteers to inform strategy development.
  • Uncover affiliations and new opportunities for prospect engagement/connection.
  • Monitor and report on high-net-worth individuals and philanthropic trends.
  • Ensure all information related to donor accounts and activity is accurate and up to date in Raiser’s Edge according to established policies and procedures.
  • Build and maintain reports on pipeline status for the Philanthropy team.
  • Complete administrative tasks including data entry, communications and assistance with events.
Qualifications
  • University degree with minimum of three years experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in either fundraising, research, or grant writing.
  • An understanding of and appreciation for the donor-centered approach to fundraising.
  • Familiarity with fundraising techniques and strategies for moves management (qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship).
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills; good judgment, diplomacy, discretion and service-oriented attitude.
  • Initiative, discernment and resourcefulness; thoughtful decision-making.
  • Excellent research skills and a strong sense of curiosity.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly computer-literate with Microsoft Office; experience with Raiser’s Edge is an asset.
  • Proven ability to multi-task in a busy environment and work well under pressure.
  • Experience in a health care philanthropy environment is an advantage.
