Job Description
The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) is an advanced practice nurse with knowledge and skills gained through additional education and experience specializing in pediatrics. The PNP blends an in-depth knowledge of advanced health assessment and diagnosis, therapeutic management with the legal authority and autonomy to order diagnostic tests, prescribe pharmaceuticals and perform specific procedures in the management and treatment of common acute pediatric illnesses and stable chronic conditions.
The PNP practices within a framework of evidence-based practice, health promotion, disease and injury prevention. The practice involves building partnerships with individuals, families and communities, including supporting inter‑professional collaboration and continuous improvements through evaluative processes and projects. The PNP will be based out of the Pediatric Inpatient Department but will also function in outpatient and community settings.
- 5 years General Nursing Experience
- Three (3) full‑time years recent experience working in a pediatric area
- Master's Degree in Nursing, with Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Designation
- Valid Class 5 driver's license
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation HCP Certificate (CPR‑HCP)
- Advanced – Conflict resolution skills
- Demonstrates communication verbal/nonverbal to build relationships
- Knowledge in research processes and program evaluation
- Diagnostic intervention skills working to the scope of practice of RN (NP) role
- Health assessment skills working to the scope of practice of the RN (NP) role
- Demonstrates capacity to plan, implement and evaluate multiple assessments
- Knowledge of palliative care and end‑of‑life care strategies
- Adaptability for competing/changing patient priorities, situations, workplace
- Therapeutic intervention skills working to the scope of practice of RN (NP) role
- Demonstrates leadership, confidence and autonomy in the RN(NP) role
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment in acute/ambulatory care
- Knowledge in leadership strategies
- Knowledge in complex pediatric illnesses and chronic conditions
- Demonstrates ability to implement coordinated, comprehensive care
- Ability to initiate and exercise critical thinking and decision making
- Pharmacotherapeutic intervention skills to the scope of practice of RN (NP) role
- Knowledge of quality of life care with medical complexity
- Demonstrates capacity for visioning, goal setting and utilizing change theory
- Ability to handle difficult situations resulting in productive outcomes
- Demonstrates empathy, trust and respect in the provision of care
- Ability to travel when required
- Registered/eligible with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)
