SIEL Human Solutions on behalf of our client is looking to hire a Part Time orFull Time Registered Veterinary Technologist for a growing mixed animal rural practice in Saskatchewan.

In this role, the Registered Veterinary Technologist will build positive client relationships by displaying genuine care and compassion towards clients and their pets, being respectful in all interactions and providing exceptional customer service. The RVT also assists the Veterinarian with medical, surgical, and dental procedures, by using a range of diagnostic equipment, preparing patients, instruments and equipment for surgery; and administering and monitoring medicines under the direction of the DVM.

Our client has over 15 years of experience providing care to both small and large animals in every area of veterinarian medicine. They have modern equipment and strive to maintain a high level of customer service while practicing medicine in a friendly small-town atmosphere. They pride themselves in mentorship and in taking a team approach to difficult cases. Their support team includes RVTs, Vet Assistants, Customer Care Reps and kennel staff.

WHAT

YOULL BRING:
  • Registered Veterinary Technologist
    - Successfully completed a 2-year accredited Canadian Veterinary or Animal Health Technology Diploma Program as a Registered Veterinary Technician or Technologist
  • Passed the VTNE or are eligible to write the VTNE.
  • Be in good standing with the Provincial Regulatory Association and maintain the required continuing education
  • Strong knowledge of physical examinations, patient assessment, catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, radiology, venipuncture, and pharmacy
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, where able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Compassion for animals.
  • Knowledge of preventative healthcare recommendations to answer client questions and concerns.
  • Ability to follow company policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments by the DVM.
  • Strong critical thinking skills, with the ability to understand logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Ability to foster a positive work environment for colleagues.
  • Must be able to perform the job in a variety of settings, including offices and fieldwork, with the ability to work in outside-weather conditions.
  • Must have the ability to lift up to 50lbs and up to 100lbs with assistance
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to the following hazards associated with aggressive patients: hazards associated with infected animals and controlled substances, exposure to unpleasant odors and noises, exposure to bites, scratches, and animal wastes and possible exposure to contagious diseases.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, run and climb stairs for both short and long periods of time.
WHAT YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL BE:
  • Support the DVM with all medical, surgical, and dental procedures.
  • Check in Appointments
    - Obtain and record pertinent patient histories, vital signs, and weights.
  • Perform in-hospital lab testing and prepare specimens for reference labs.
  • Dispense and administer medications, vaccines, serums, and treatments as prescribed by the DVM.
  • Administer fluids and blood products as prescribed by the DVM.
  • Use and maintain IV pump.
  • Administer and monitor anesthesia under the direction of the DVM.
  • Prepare patients, instruments, and equipment for surgery; and clean, maintain and sterilize instruments, equipment, and materials.
  • Assure that monitoring and support equipment such as anesthetic machines and cardiac monitors.
  • Take radiographs processes rads, demonstrates proper positioning techniques.
  • Provide education to clients and assist in marketing veterinary services from which their pet would benefit, such as a dental cleaning, senior wellness, and spay and neuter procedures.
  • Educate clients on products and medications sold including dietary products and answer questions regarding product purchase/use.
  • Perform client follow ups according to policy and deadlines.
  • Maintain legally defensible medical records in cooperation with the DVM.
  • Maintain inventory of pharmaceuticals, equipment and supplies
  • Maintain all diagnostic equipment
  • Collect specimens and perform routine laboratory procedures and tests in hematology, biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, urinalysis, and serology to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of animal health problems.
