Research Ethics Graduate Student Assistant

The University of Saskatchewan Human Research Ethics Office (REO) facilitates the review of research ethics applications submitted to both the Behavioural Research Ethics Board (Beh REB) and Biomedical Research Ethics Board (Bio REB). The REO plays a pivotal role in supporting researchers in their understanding of research ethics requirements for research involving human participants, as well as the ongoing administrative requirements.

Primary

Purpose:

Reporting to the Director, Human Research Ethics, the Graduate Student Assistant provides support to the REO in the processing of research ethics files and in the ongoing operations to help ensure efficient and timely completion of unit's work.

Hours:

7-10 hours per week

Term:
Oct 1, 2026 – Sept 30, 2027

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Generation of study approval certificates.
• Generation of letters of acknowledgment.
• Generation of study closure documents.
• Generation of various summary reports (REB, USask operational units, etc.).
• Data entry, statistical analysis and results visualization of REO operational key performance indicators.
• Special tasks as assigned by the Director (e.g., REB member acknowledgement letters, document copyediting, literature reviews pertinent to research ethics, etc).

Qualifications:

• Applicants must be a current graduate student in good standing and registered with the College of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.
• Completion of the Tri-Council Policy Statement:
  Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans TCPS:
  
  CORE-2022 Course on Research Ethics.

Skills:

• Strong attention to detail.
• Excellent time management and ability to prioritize tasks in a high volume work environment.
• Proven ability to communicate with team members about work progress, based on the interdependencies of the incumbent’s work with the overall workflow of the REO.
• Strong ability to meet deadlines.
• High level of proficiency and accuracy with data entry tasks.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct general statistical analysis.
• Aptitude for results visualization.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Well-developed communication skills (oral, written).
