Position Overview
Biathlon Saskatchewan is seeking an experienced, motivated, and innovative Provincial Head Coach to lead technical direction, training programs, club development, athlete development and broader sport development across the province. The Provincial Head Coach reports to the Co‑chairs of the Board of Directors and will work with clubs, athletes, and stakeholders to elevate biathlon performance and support long‑term athlete development.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A passion for biathlon, and athlete and sport development.
  • Collaborative and inclusive coaching philosophy.
  • NCCP Competition Development (or equivalent) in biathlon or a related sport;
    Experienced Competition Introduction (Certified) applicants welcomed.
  • Demonstrated positive coaching experience with high‑performance or developing athletes. (references requested)
  • Strong technical expertise in biathlon (cross‑country skiing and rifle marksmanship).
  • Understanding of LTAD principles and athlete‑centered coaching practices.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Screening and Training as per the Biathlon Saskatchewan Safe Sport Screening Policy.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within Saskatchewan and nationally.
  • Current First Aid, CPR, and Safe Sport certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Assets

  • Experience working within provincial or national sport organizations.
  • Experience in competitive biathlon racing.
  • Experience in managing staff, volunteer, and/or contractors.
  • Waxing and ski‑service expertise.
  • Rifle tuning and service experience.

Compensation

A competitive salary ($50,000 to $70,000) will be offered, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Travel expenses and professional development support are reimbursed.

  • Three employment/experience references, two athlete references required.

Key Responsibilities of Provincial Head Coach High Performance and Athlete Development
  • Oversee the Saskatchewan High Performance Team
    • Develop and lead provincial training programs, camps, and competitions.
    • Lead the assessment and individualized training plan development for all provincial team athletes.
      • Monitor athlete development through regular testing, training reviews, and performance analysis; manage training loads.
      • Coordinate with integrated support team members (e.g., fitness coaches, sports medicine professionals, club coaches).
  • Be the lead liaison for Saskatchewan Winter Games and serve as lead coach for Canada Winter Games.
  • Coordinate racing both in‑province and out‑of‑province with an eye towards excellence.
Sport Development
  • Develop and participate in outreach activities, camps, and events aimed at recruiting new athletes and increasing the sport’s visibility and participation base throughout the province.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and education to club‑level coaches to foster the grassroots growth of biathlon in Saskatchewan at all levels including para programs.
  • Work in cooperation with the board of Biathlon Saskatchewan to foster athlete, coach and officials development in the province.
  • Encourage an inclusive and engaged biathlon community.
Program Management & Administration
  • Manage provincial program logistics, including scheduling, travel, accommodation, and risk management for camps and competitions.
  • Manage the provincial rifle and eco‑aim inventory and ensure equipment is available, maintained, tracked and rental payments are completed.
  • Prepare seasonal and annual plans, reports, and program documentation for the Board and Technical Committee.
