Location: Clavet
Railserve, Canada—Position:
Rail Locomotive Operator / Switchman/Helper. The primary location is Clavet with possible assignments in Lanigan to cover vacations.
- Operate electric, diesel‑electric, or gas‑turbine‑electric locomotives.
- Pump liquid chemicals, petroleum products, and other liquids from tank cars.
- Interpret train orders, signals, and applicable rules and regulations.
- Transport freight and perform timely, accurate switching and placement of rail cars.
- Operate hand or ground throw switches, derails, gates, and related equipment.
- Control movement of equipment by radio, hand signals, and lanterns.
- Apply and release hand brakes to secure or move equipment.
- Handle air hoses, wheel chocks, and perform coupling/uncoupling of rail cars.
- Wear required personal protective equipment at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Education / Experience: High school diploma (or equivalent) is preferred; military experience is a plus.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Reliable, punctual, dependable; dependable transport to work. Strong verbal, non‑verbal, and written communication; active listening. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and develop a timely plan. Team‑player in a cooperative environment; works under pressure in a quick‑paced setting. Follows directions from crew leaders, assistant site leaders, site leaders, regional leaders, and other management.

Skills:
Basic arithmetic with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals; compute rates, ratios, percentages; interpret and create bar graphs. - Reasoning Ability: Apply common sense and solve practical problems in standardized and semi‑standardized situations; interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule instructions.
- Physical Demands: Stand, walk, sit, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift, and move heavy weights. Requires visual acuity and the ability to adjust focus.
