We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Fishing Vessel Deckhand to assist with daily operations aboard commercial fishing vessels. This role involves hands-on work on deck, maintaining equipment, handling catches, and ensuring the vessel operates safely and efficiently. The ideal candidate is physically fit, adaptable to changing conditions, and committed to teamwork.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with deploying and retrieving fishing gear, nets, and traps.
Handle, sort, and store fish and seafood according to quality and safety standards.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the deck, storage areas, and equipment.
Perform routine maintenance and repairs on fishing gear and vessel equipment.
Assist with loading and unloading catches at port.
Follow all safety protocols, including life-saving and emergency procedures.
Work collaboratively with the captain and crew to ensure smooth vessel operations.
Qualifications & Skills:
Previous deckhand or fishing experience is preferred but not required.
Ability to perform physically demanding work in varying sea and weather conditions.
Comfortable working at heights and on slippery surfaces.
Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Knowledge of basic maintenance and handling of fishing equipment is an asset.
Work Conditions:
Work is performed at sea for extended periods, often in physically challenging conditions.
Fast-paced and physically intensive role requiring lifting, bending, and standing for long hours.
Flexible schedule may include early mornings, late nights, and weekends.
